I'm still not sure what was the point of doing an installment in the style of cute, talking animals comics. It's kinda sweet, though.

1978 Inspector Spacetime Magazine Monster Design Contest Winner
Nigel Birchwood, age 8, won a contest sponsored by Inspector Spacetime Magazine in 1978. The magazine urged readers to submit original designs for monsters. The winner was to see his design realized by the actual prop and costume makers from the show for a photo opportunity.
That was to be the end of it, but when controversial producer Nathaniel Williams-Bliss saw the Splorgh (above) he insisted on writing an Inspector Spacetime episode around the creature. The Slorgh's onscreen appearance was lackluster, however. It was described by one critic as looking like "a children's novelty eraser".

Tears of the Arachnons (excerpt)
This audio adventure starring David Bowie as The Inspector is a little-known gem from the period when the television series was on haitus. Bowie's Inspector had an unearthly combination of iciness and pathos. The thick regret you hear in his voice when he explains that while the offspring will be safe, he can do nothing to save the mother Arachnon... wow. Below you will find just an excerpt. The rest is worth tracking down.

Guess What Came In The Mail???
I checked my mailbox yesterday to find that now-familiar manila envelope from my source overseas. It's the December issue of Inspector Spacetime Magazine! I'm very optimistic about Christmas on Mars. It's a happy accident how the 1981 Holiday Special set the bar so low, each successive special has increasingly exceeded expectations. The poster inside is a larger version of the cover, with legions of demonic-looking nutcrackers attacking from the left and right.
